I'm surprised you think being transgender is a mental illness.
No, the real crisis is an upsurge in hatred — unreasoning hatred that bears no relationship to anything the victims have done. And anyone making excuses for that hatred — who tries, for example, to turn it into a “both sides” story — is, in effect, an apologist for crimes against humanity. - Paul Krugman

I think it is. A person is of a gender but his brain feels he is the other gender. There must be something that went wrong, like some kind of illness, probably mental.

I would say that there is something different, but I wouldn't call it wrong. Do you think being gay is a mental illness as well?

So you are born with a gender but feels like the other to the point you want to undergo surgery to change it. Yes, something went wrong. But I myself maybe wrong calling it a mental illness.

Ah! Tough question! I have many gay friends and I like them. I support their rights to be treated like any other couple. Do they suffer mental illness? Frankly, I don't know what to answer.

Fat thumbs and a little phone and I delete a post. Ah well. I fell that things like gender identity exist on a continuum rather than just being binary. I think that's why one sees this sort of variation.

You either have a penis or a vagina (generally). All those other "genders" are not genders, they are something else.

I did specify gender identity, not gender. Also your "(generally)" does acknowledge that biology doesn't always fit into binary boxes.

The word gender is still in use. "Gender identity" is the gender you feel to be, which may or not match your current gender. If I am right (as I said earlier, I may be wrong), there are currently 2 possible genders, male or female. If you are of a gender but feel you are the other, then you may suffer from a condition similar to a mental illness. If you are of a gender but feel you are of a gender that does not exist, then you are definitely suffering from a mental illness (or just an attention whore). This is my opinion, and like any other opinion, I may be wrong.

Those outside the "binary boxes" are anomalies. Or maybe we are evolving, and we will see other reproductive organs for real.

What do you call it when a human man feels like they are a female fish?
Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it. Fight for left-handed rights and hand equality.

Where was that said? I took the OP to mean that trying to stop people from acting in a role that they can't personally identify with is the mental illness, not a transgender person. Hence his comment about murderers playing murderers.

Female is a real gender. But a fish? That would definitely fit in the mental illness category.

The comment was a joke. But you don't get jokes.

Enjoy your camping trip. When I travel, I want my biggest concern to be "Do I need two or three down pillows?". :)

My biggest concern will be "did we bring enough beer"? Thanks!

Well they had a semi major star and she got chased away. No other star will want to go near it now. Without a star they probably won’t make the movie - which was apparently sympathetic to the trans viewpoint -at all. Well that’s a big win for the movement! Idiots!

There was a reasonable film made just under 20 years ago called Boys Don't Cry with Hilary Swank that portrays a woman trying to live as a man. It's by no means a brilliant film but is worth watching. How the world has changed since then, when nowadays difficult topics and the brutality of some cannot be discussed without the whole thing turning into a farcical identity politics argument where only those who claim to be in a particular group are free to speak on sensitive areas.

Jim Parsons isn’t straight, but he plays a straight guy in Big Bang Theory, and the hypocritical fag alliance didn’t have anything to f*ckin say about that...

If Scarlett Johansson would have played this role, she would have been ruined for the straight male population and her chances to score with me would be diminished to zero. :) Now she can continue to play that sexy character with the russian accent quite believably. A win-win situation.
