Ottawa-Gatineau tornado

A F-3 tornado hit a neighborhood close to mine (less than a mile). Although we got strong winds the tornado did not hit my house directly. Found a few shingles had flew off my roof, but that is it. In the neighborhood where it hit, many houses were badly damaged and roofs completely torn off, cars capsized. Where I live, this is a very, if not unique, event. In my 55 years of existence, I never heard of something like this. I am not a strong proponent of climate change and not a denier either, but events like this make me think. Especially with the many heat waves we got this summer. Hottest summer since temperatures are recorded (150ish years) in Montreal (around 120 miles east of here).

I did not hear of any serious injuries or death.

I think these things, tornados, can happen anywhere, When I was a kid, over 50 years ago, a tornado ripped through Sydney northern suburbs, it was 3 houses wide when it reached our area, we were the middle one. I don't think there has been another tornado in the area since. When you said an F3 tornado I thought you were talking about a plane crash :-O

Oh, it's one of those weeks is it? I can never remember where we are on the scale:
- Climate change doesn't exist;
- Climate change exists, but it's not caused by humans;
- Climate change exists, and is caused by humans, but it's a good thing;

I hope that everybody was okay and didn't loose anything important. An EF-3 is nothing to scoff at. Tornadoes are frightful things. Be grateful that you don't live down here in the plains states. According to the Storm Prediction Center [^], since 1962 and within in 120km of my community there have been 297 EF-0, 166 EF-1, 83 EF-2, 30 EF-3, 10 EF-4, and 1 EF-5 tornadoes. That singular EF-5 tornado is why the entire neighborhood I live in now was rebuilt back in the sixties. We don't get hurricanes and flooding is occasional but tornadoes are the premier threat from March to October.

Climate isn't weather. Although Global Warming is increasing the global temperature local variations can go anywhere. What is truly significant is that weather forecasting is based on historical data. Which only works well when the climate stays the same.
