Hey Scott, Funny you mention this, I just exchanged some email with Chris about the Palm IIIc I just bought, telling him how impressed I was with the thing. Although I haven't really dug into the iPaq, I have extensively used HPCs from HP and Cassio running WinCE 1, 1.1, and 2.0. I really could never make those things part of my life, the novelty lasted about 6-8 weeks, and then I simply gave up using them. I have a desk drawer full of them :( My experience with the Palm has been different though. It's not a handheld computer, and it really isn't intended to be one I think. To me, it is simply Microsoft Outlook to go with a handful of cool other features. I'd be really interested to hear what people think about each of the handhelds, and their experience with them. I can't see deploying industrial strength data collection apps on Palm, and I can on CE devices, but I find the CE devices less than ideal for simply replacing a dayplanner.

I'm using a Palm III (first model) for years now. Never leave the house without it. It's one of the best things I've ever bought. It could have been any CE-model as well, the main thing is that I have an agenda I really use. I've used a Philips Velo as well a couple of years back, but that model was just a little too heavy and too big to fit in my pocket. -- Alex Marbus www.marbus.net But then again, I could be wrong.

Personally I use the Palm V. I love it and have loved it since it originally came out. It does everything I need it to with speed and without fault. I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking to enter the PDA market. Palm is wonderfully stable with tons of add-ons available. That said, I am seriously considering upgrading to the Palm m505 with color and the Palm V appearance (much slicker than the Palm III models). As for CE... Compaq is the "prettiest" choice so far. When the iPAQ first came out (that's when I first started looking at CE devices) I was completely sold on the idea. After all, most of us are Windows developers... all of us? Anyway, my company jumped on the possibilities this "new" market offers and the upcoming promise of wireless connectivity and what that could bring to the table (Bluetooth). Therefore, I have on my desk at work the Compaq Aero 1550 (bleh), the Compaq iPaq 3650 (oooooooh) and the Compaq iPaq 3100 (slightly less ooooooooooooooooooh). The Aero kinda sucks. It's slow with only 16 shades of grey. Writing an MFC application for it is painful. The 3650 and 3100 are mostly the same. The 3100 is greyscale instead of color (still high resolution though) and has 16MB less memory. However, it still accepts all the same add-on's and runs with the same processor and Pocket PC features. At about $150 cheaper than the approximately $350 3650 model, I'd suggest it first (depending on how deep your pockets go). My applications have run well with it (so far). There's a lot of things I don't currently like about Windows CE 3.0, but that's Microsoft, not iPAQ. My thoughts (currently) go along these lines... My Palm V is awesome. For keeping me organized it's all I need. The iPAQ is awesome. It does everything my Palm does for a considerable amount more money adding lots of extra features I don't really "NEED". The MP3 support is nice but without adding an extra card sporting at least 64MB of RAM, what's the point? The PCMCIA/Compact Flash support is nice.. but REALLY bulky and makes carrying this thing around a big pain. My Palm is nice and small and the hard cover I bought for it is great. I see no decent hardcover for the iPAQ and recently when the iPAQ fell off the back of my desk a total of maybe 3 feet onto carpeting, the case pushed apart and the record button got stuck in. I had to dig it out with a paper clip and the case never completely recovered. Also, the iPAQ though it has that cool "pop out" stylus also has major problems where that "pop out" stylus never pops out again. I hav

Same here, I think I should have bought a Palm. :(( Have a good one, -Ben "Its funny when you stop doing things not because they’re wrong, but because you might get caught." - Unknown
