I noticed in the (nearly) defunct soap box a disparaging implication about the "Thought of the Day" Well - OG's Thought of the Day is one of the highlights of the lounge - I look for it (hoping it's on-time and the best words aren't already used) - certainly long before even considering going to the Soapbox to vent* and otherwise totally waste time in a kid's food fight with listeria. Scanning one's entire vocabulary with that awkward point of view to come up with something is probably very stimulating for some or other odd part of the brain. Actually, one thing about it I'll miss: the place to post those non-KSS jokes, rare as they were. A good laugh is always, well, a good laugh. Venting on the soapbox === pharting into the wind . . . it was necessary to phart, but the blow-back is always looming.

That nearly gave me a heart attack! I keep a DOCX file with all the TotD's I've posted in a (sometimes vain) attempt to avoid reposts. And I thought I'd just check now big it is: must be pretty huge given how many years I've been posting them ...

Location: X:\Future Posts - on my NAS so I can add to it from any device
Size: 53.9 KB (55,246 bytes) - Wow! Smaller than I expected!
Size on disk: 3.99 GB (4,294,967,294 bytes) - Oh, oh. Looks like a NAS problem ...

Checking, rechecking, disk status, file system integrity, ... all looks fine. Hang on, it's doing that for all files ... Oh, yes. RAID5, so it's stored "smeared" across disks and it's reporting the size of a physical disk as the smearing occurs in a disk sized file on each of 'em ... phew! That had me worried for a moment!

Sent from my Amstrad PC 1640 Never throw anything away, Griff Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay... AntiTwitter: @DalekDave is now a follower!

Agreed. I'm not that much into pun threads, so I don't read them all, but they're an institution that a lot of people like. The CCC is the same (credit where it's due: Dalek Dave started that off, and contributed it solo, every day for years). Things like that are affable and friendly, and contribute a lot to the tone and atmosphere of the Lounge -- and are unique to the CP Lounge. I'm dreading the influx of ill-will and bad manners that will probably result from the closure of the soapbox.

I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!

Well - my ill will and bad manners were reserved for the soapbox. It was, in fact, sadly enlightening how much "soapbox" was lurking in so many minds. It's still there. Maybe they'll just move over to stackoverflow?* * Uh-Oh. There's that ill-will, again.

I agree. Which also proves my point.
