Zoo pictures

This is competely unrelated to anything around here. I just want to share some photos... :) I finally took my daughter to our local Zoo today. I was planning to do it for a long time. I took many pictures and some of them came out decent. Here are some of the better pictures if anyone is interested: http://www.pbase.com/kostya/zoo_may_2003[^] Any comments you might have are welcome. Thank you.

I was at the national zoo (in Washington D.C.) one day back a long, long time ago. There was this large bird. Don't remember what it was, just that it was a large bird. About the size of a domestic turkey, but not a turkey. This bird was sticking it's wings out and "dancing" around. There was this kid that must have been about 4 maybe 5 at the time. He was so excited that this bird was dancing for him. He asked him mom who was right behind him what the bird was doing. Of course the mom explained that the bird was "displaying." Right about then the bird started to relieve itself. I, in my infinite wisdom, noticed this and without even realizing it look over at one of the people I was there with as said, "The bird isn't displaying, he is taking a crap." :omg: I obviously said it a little too loud. Immediately the kid turns around and tells his mom, "Eeww. The bird is taking a crap." :-O Ah, those were the days. I felt a bit ashamed. I probably just ruined the kids entire image of the zoo.

You took some lovely shots there - mostly wouldn't guess they were in a zoo either :) Your antelope is an Eland by the way. Did you know those huge beasts can jump 2 metre fences with no run up?

Robert Little wrote: I probably just ruined the kids entire image of the zoo. Don't worry. You seem to have only a daughter, not a son. If you had a son, like me, you would know that the next day, on the school, the kid probably said: "You know, I was on the zoo yesterday and saw this big bird taking a crap! Cool!". And he became the hero for the next 15 seconds. :-D My latest article: GBVB - Converting VB.NET code to C#

Reminds me of a trip to the Johannesburg zoo when I was 6 and my brother was 4. We were looking at an elephant bull when my little brother piped up "wow - it's even bigger than my daddies!" My dad would have been quite happy for the ground to swallow him up right then. Amazing how far a little kids voice can travel!

Hi Brian :) Have been hoping you would pop up today. If you had to get from London to Cork, what route would you take? Coach, particular airlines? This is very zoo picture related isn't it :-O Sorry and thanks :)

You could take a "eurolines" bus... it's £49 [sterling] return from Londong to Cork [As far as I can remember [there was a bus from Londong with the price to cork across the back window driving through Waterford when I was on my way to work on Tuesday last]. You could always fly with Ryanair to Shannon [I don't know if it's direct from London.. You might need to go via Dublin] and then it's about an hour on a bus from Shannon to cork... or you cuold fly from London to Dublin and then from Dublin to Cork... probably the quickest way... not sure how much though. Thanks Brian :-D He's (hubby's cousin) not too happy about the time on the coach, and is thinking of flying to Dublin from Gatwick (£39,99 Ryanair) and then catching a coach from there. Only problem - that site can't quote on journeys starting and ending in Ireland ( ). Do you have any loose guestimates on the price / time that would possibly be? I really need to get my butt over to Ireland so I know what I'm talking about :-O
