How about writing a CodeProject book about programming desktop applications in .NET? The book would give you a good foundational understanding of how to use the main features/technologies of .NET & its BCL. Books that use the step-by-step approach sometimes just give you the steps, but don't tell you enough about why the steps should be taken and what they do, etc. Then there are the books that give you facts, put don't give you an example of applying them in a practical way. What I'd like to do is use a step-by-step approach, but explain the why's and how's along the way. Here's a sampling of topics. If enough people want this, we can make a more final list in an article. [asterisks denote topics I'd be willing to write for] BEGINNER: Console Apps * Clipboard Handling Printing ** Using the standard .NET controls Delegates & Events ** XML *** Resources** Fonts and Text *** File IO INTERMEDIATE: Sorting in .NET Registry Serialization * Graphics/Drawing *** COM Interop ** Shell Extensions * Data access Collections *** Threading * Remoting Attributes SubClassing *** Globalization/Localization Reflection ** The list above leaves some topics out. If there is a topic not listed that you'd really like to write for, go ahead and mention it.

I might add something... Please vote on the ideas using the message voting system we have in place here at CP. That might make things easier. Oh, and be nice.

That's a good idea. Because if you vote by replying, the thread will get 'way too big.

Since this is a CodeProject project, why not make it something directly related to CodeProject? (utilities for better communication between CPians, developer utilities/plugins for directly grabbing content from CodeProject, code/tools to enhance the usability of the site itself (per Chris' approval)). Idea A client program that monitors all new/updated posts, articles, etc. then lets you browse them at your leasure (without depending upon the cookie that gets confused as to whether you actually read something or not). This same program would also have a CodeProject-specific chat client built-in. It could also use a sophisticated article submission handler to ensure good formatting, and prevent some of the potential problems where web browsers lose data in the event of an error. Etc. John

What about a defect-tracker that have both a web-frontend and a winforms frontend. Or........ With all that talk about source-version-systems (SourceSafe vs. CVS) what about writing one, that is easy to use, easy integration into VS... Basically SourceSafe without the bugs in that product... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

Just post it here with a good message title. If you would like to elaborate on the idea, then post a new message in the IDEAS thread with your elaboration. We'll get the top few messages based on voting and then we'll pick one amongst ourselves.

Ok... 1 think I always find myself doing when I'm talking to fellow CPians [via IM] is using things like  and . Why not make an Instant Messenging system... we could use the SIP and/or Jabber protocols so it could interoperate with MSN, AIM, ICQ and so on. It's not a massive project and not too difficult, it'll be good to get to know the others in the group and it's something we could all use on future projects to aid in our communication and so on. As well as being able to communicate with MSN and so on [SIP is great :-D] and having all the CP emoticons [very important] it could conenct to the CP rss feed and pull information from the web services here on CP [along with other webservices/rss feeds]. Integrated colloberation tools for CPP and so on Just a thought. Regards, Brian Dela :-)
