sheesh.. it's about time I got some shut-eye and I have had enough. I am trying to get 3 computers (2 on XP home and one on W2K Pro) to connect to the internet through 1 PC (which is on XP). I have a router that dynamically allocates IP addresses to each. I have tried the XP networking wizard and online help thing and also fiddling around with the network and dial up settings but i am not getting anywhere. Anyone got some good links so I can get this sorted? It's just that the XP supplied help is as much use as a chainsaw wielding drunk at a circumcision. Mucho appreciated. Ad. Set up the one computer that has the Internet connection as an ICS host, enable automatic settings on the other two, and disable the DHCP Server service on the router. ICS wants to assign IP addresses, and uses its built in DHCP service to pass on gateway and DNS IP addresses; if it detects another DHCP server on the subnet it chokes.

Step 1: Go to computer store (CompUSA, BestBuy, Microcenter, etc) Step 2: purchase DSL/CableModem router for $20 (Seimens, Linksys, etc) or Step 2: purchase NetGear modem dial-up unit for about $60 or so. Step 3: take home. Unwrap. Plug into systems. Turn on. Enjoy. Note: if you're using a router that assigns DHCP, I can make a guess that this will do NAT gateway routing, too, so you PROBABLY already have what you need.
