Subscription and versions

Am I misunderstanding something or with a VisualStudio subscription I can use any version of VS? So if I buy a VS Professional subscription I should be able to use VS 2015 Pro, VS2017 Pro and VS2019 Pro with the same license. So far I always had the sw licensed by the employer but I may need to license my own for a customer with more restrictions than a straitjacket. EDIT: I have an unlicensed VS 2015 enteprise version installed by the customer's admins but I can only obtain a Pro license from my company. The customer doesn't have access to the Pro version. Can I activate the Enteprise version with a Pro license and use only the Pro features?

It's usually the language / framework versions you're working with that are important; not the VS version. I'm not going to install VS 2008 if I'm working on a .Net 1.0 project.

Unfortunately no. The edition is determined when the product is installed, not when the license is applied.
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.
