The user interface design in Lotus Notes 4.x and 5.0 is one of the worst I've encountered in a mass-market application. It's appallingly slow and seems to go out of its way to make it difficult to learn and use. Notes is one of the very few applications I've had to use in the last fifteen years that I actually needed a User's Guide for - it's that obtuse.
