Windows messenger comes with (and can only be run on) WinXP, MSN messenger can run on any OS (I'm not sure about XP though) Ryan Being little and getting pushed around by big guys all my life I guess I compensate by pushing electrons and holes around. Good things: +more eye candy. c'mon, that's what skinnable GUIs are for, why pretend otherwise? +buddy photo/icon/whatever. well, this is sort of eye candy, but it's suprisingly nice when you've several chat sessions open & need to instantly recognize who you're chatting with. +works more reliably on the proxy at work. this is huge. +message logs & some other shit they should have had years ago... Bad Things: -I run other programs, dammit! make the thing smaller... -It's still flaky through Microsoft's own ISA Server. -It's not Trillian - my AIM and Y! contacts are left out in the cold.

It was an unofficial leak. Microsoft demanded it be removed from the internet completely, but it's still there. You can find it on www.filemirrors.com[^] and search for "msn". Yes...just not use them. So if Nnamdi types in suss with two colons around it, I'll see the :suss: dude. But if I type in the same string, I'll get a confused smiley followed by uss:

Humble apologies. Server crashed, now Exchange 2000 won't work and I have slept on the office couch the last few days. While waiting for things to install and download and fix and spin I prop my spirits up with CP. I should be the 4201st email you recieve this evening.

Different markets, apparently. Windows Messenger is meant for serious business people to use*. It is not as pretty and does not have all the cute little fisher price features of MSN MEssenger. MSN MEssenger, like MSN Browser, is flashy and pretty. It has a slew of useless features which 16 year olds are supposed to use. Surprisingly though MSN 6 BETA is damned good, even for serious use. The message limit is far bigger, it is more reliable and it fits in nicely with Windows XP (it does work on Windows XP.) I suspect though that the next Windows Messenger will come out and once again be better for business users. Of course, we could all just use email... * Never mind you cannot even send the briefest of thoughts without running into the stupid message limit

Is it possible to rename your contacts in version 6? I simply can't understand why this hasn't been possible - instead you are forced to guess who's sending you a message when the person has just recently changed its nick.
