I have been having trouble finding a good flashlight. Advice and personal experience are welcome. I'm currently using this [**THIS ONE**](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hyper-Tough-LED-1300-Lumens-Flashlight/638632595) which is truly a great flashlight, but the problems are greater than the benefit. Walmart is a consummate consumer source, and indeed they replaced the flashlight twice for me (and super simply, I might add, both times). The facts are, though, that if I'm a customer at Walmart, I want them to be profitable (for exactly this reason). The problem is now the battery. I'll use it about eight hours a night, generally something in the range of three to four hours all totaled. All good, except that a full and complete recharge now takes me; last week it was sixty continuous hours. I think my third edition of this flashlight has transformed them into a nonprofit organization on this one, and I don't want to ask them for a fourth one. So they sold you a cheap piece of Chinese made, poor quality junk that is made to be thrown away and replaced. Take it back 20 times until you get one that works or get your money back. Or do what they want you to do; buy it and when it breaks buy a new one.

The tactical flashlights are the way to go. They are not that expensive. I live on a little less than 1 acre and it lights up the back fence line - I was amazed. As in John can see what to shoot at amazed. Sorry, we have coyotes in north Georgia now... and some other 2 legged critters. The key is to just get good batteries. Keep multiple charged and off you go.

words of warning 1. determine what model LED is (find it LED manufacturer catalogue), if not given don't buy the light. 2. find total lumen spec for that LED(s) 3. if that number below the total lumen spec for the flashlight, then are over-driving them which will mean a shorten life for the LED(s). Sure they may be bright but they will fail eventually. If light is turned on for continuous period of time it not might last before it's turned off.

I think you are really looking for speleology lamps. Petzl has a good one: DUO S - Headlamps | Petzl Other[^] price should be about ~250$ Scurion is the best out there with duration from 5 to 150 hours based on luminosity. Price ranges from ~500$ to 800$ Hope it can be of help!

LEARNING EXPERIENCE OF THE WEEK - All USB Wall Chargers Are NOT Created Equal --- Through a weird sequence of events, I became suspicious of the wall charger which I was using with this flashlight. Tried a different one, randomly chosen, lying around in another room. Full and complete charge; six hours ? Four ? Whatever it was, the thing is now usable. Shucks; It's great ! Exactly what I need. WalMart detractors, sorry to write these words, but this fine 1300 Lumen flashlight from WalMart is just plain good. They have such great products, and their people are superb examples of retail professionals. What a great place WalMart is. I'm going back there as soon as I can. WalMart will make you happy, healthy, and successful in the stock market. Clicked around and became a thirty-minute internet expert on USB chargers, and DUH; some of those things will only produce half an amp. Talk about cheapskates ! I'm guessing that I was using just such a half-amp charger. I'm further guessing that my random choice thing here is a 2.4 Amp charger. I am seeing 4 amp chargers and one 5.1 Amp USB wall charger advertised for sale. Just wondering; Is there any advantage to a higher Amp charger ? Is there any danger ?

I have two Keenstone Tactical[^] and it's a good flashlight. I can vouch for the numbers listed on the site. Look it up on Amazon, it's a few dollars cheaper there. If you do buy it, make sure to get the one with two 18650 batteries.

Nice going. Thanks for the research. I ordered their two-pack kit with externally rechargeable batteries. From specs and your opinion, looks like one of the best Lumens_For_Dollars deals around. Just curious, how soon, after you ordered, did they ship ? I ordered and paid a week ago, and I'm still awaiting an initial ship date.

Hey, Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been on a vacation away from the computer. I received mine about two weeks after ordering. It's the longest battery life I've found. Hope it works out for you. Edit: Btw, I bought mine off Amazon. Direct from the manufacturer might be from China.

Really liked the idea of what you described, and the specs and the prices were clearly at the right corner of the value matrix. Maybe I'll try Amazon
