Soft Walls. Basically, what this does is modify the flight control system software on any current spec aircraft to prevent it from being flown into restricted airspace (loading up a Cesna with a homemade fuel bomb doesn't count). If the aircraft is capabile of doing this - and the article suggests that all current models are - then what is the point of having a pilot at all? They also make the laughable claim that it's hack proof. Really? Dude, you guys just told EVERYONE that the flight systems can be tampered with and control taken away from the flight crew. Coupled with the "turn off the cell phones and laptops" in planes, I'm pretty sure that it's only a very short time until someone highjacks the plane from seat 35B. This scheme can go wrong in just so many ways it's not funny. It's almost as bad as arming the pilots, since the hijackers no longer need to bring any weapon on board.

There's an easier answer - keep the windows closed. We keep our office windows closed and have never had a problem with airplanes in the building, so it must work... ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends

The world keeps getting more complex. And what really amazes me, is that people not only continue to think of complex solutions, but they get the buy-in of everyone else! What about a locked steel door to the pilot's cabin? Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.
