My question: What jobs will ChatGPT replace? It's answer: ChatGPT, like other language generation models, has the potential to automate or augment tasks that involve natural language processing, such as: Text generation: ChatGPT can be used to generate text, such as news articles, social media posts, and product descriptions. Content creation: ChatGPT can assist content creators in generating ideas and creating written content. Language translation: The model could potentially be used for machine translation, allowing for near real-time translations of text. Customer service: ChatGPT could be used to automate customer service interactions, answering frequently asked questions, and providing assistance. Personalization: ChatGPT could be used to personalize content, such as product recommendations or personalized greetings It's important to note that GPT-3 as ChatGPT will not replace human jobs, but rather it could assist human in doing their jobs more efficiently by taking care of repetitive tasks and allowing humans to focus on more value-adding activities. Additionally, the use cases and implementation will be the key factor on how it would impact the jobs, it's important to consider how to properly use these model to augment and not replace humans.

Machine translation has been around since the early 80s and perhaps before that, while it is does a pretty decent job nowadays there are still issues. I helped looked over some English to French translations and a few of them were just plain grammatically incorrect. My sense is that machine translation still needs someone to proof read the result.

ChatGPT is not replacing any jobs. not one. However, it will eventually become a very powerful tool for many, I am sure. It might make its way into Visual Studio someday, who knows, starting with other MS products: The Insider News[^]

To raise the tone of the discussion slightly: every time I read about GPT I recall an "issue" from the 1980s. I worked in offices next door to GEC, at the time they merged with Plessey. The new global business was called GEC Plessey Telecommunications, and went by the initials GPT. This was fine in the UK, but I heard from the staff that it caused a bit of a problem for the telephonists in their French offices. Global standards required the receptionists to answer the phone with the company name, "GPT - how may I help you" (and the French equivalent of course). The problem is that the initials GPT are pronounced in French as "jea pay tay" - which sounds very much like "j'ai pété" - "I have farted". So I still think of that in any discussion of ChatGPT. :^)

Telegraph marker posts ... nothing to do with IT Phasmid email discussion group ... also nothing to do with IT Beekeeping and honey site ... still nothing to do with IT
