I have written some useful articles that may be valuable to some readers. I want to post them on my website for users to read and don't want them to download to local computers. what kind of PDF component to be installed on server side? just a PDF viewer server component? Thanks a million for any thought!

On my site I have a lot of photos and the way I restricted users from copying is by capturing the right click and displaying a popup that informs the user if they want a copy to contact me. But there are always ways to get the material, maybe not in the form they want but they can get it.

Cannot prevent someone from taking a picture 🖼️ of the screen from their mobile camera 📸. And then using OCR to convert the image to text. Isn't it? Addendum: Other than the Coca Cola formula, is there anything which has been protected without getting leaked? As individuals, we perhaps don't have the financial strength to protect our so-called intellectual property.

In addition to the above replies, you should note that PDF is not a "read-only" format. Many tools are available to unpick PDFs into an editable form. You don't need a "viewer server" component. Just publish the PDF and browsers know what to do.

That really is the only way. If shared knowledge is valuable enough, it's worth hanging on to. People *will* save it. Otherwise, don't share it...? It's contradictory, but one cannot have it both ways.

You do realize that as long as it's published you can't stop that, regardless of format? I understand if someone doesn't want to be plagiarized. It's happened to me and that sucks. But, asking someone not to save it... why, you wanna show them new adds or something? If you're worried about squeezing a dollar out of someone then put it behind a paywall. Keep in mind though, the scientific community doesn't take too kind to the average antics people play when it comes to extorsion, money, etc. Which is what this sounds like if plan on making sure nobody can save your content.

You can also quickly disable JavaScript, after the page loads/renders, in DevTools to save the image. Or intercept the request. Or, there are a ton of ways...

Screwing with someone's browser experience is bad juju. It's no better than endless popups. It'll only prevent non-techy users anyway. If you're really that worried about it, you're better off watermarking the image.

Not sure how that changes anything? It can be erased from the image. It can be deleted from the OCR text.
