I do not understand the Netflix "recommendation algorithm".

Respectfully, the racism might be in your head, not the algorithm. What if it thinks, "he's interested in east Asian culture?"
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.
Unconscious bias? It's possible. I'm normally pretty careful to avoid that - for example I don't look at who wrote an article / question / solution here before deciding if it's acceptable when moderating so no unconscious bias on my part would influence my decision. Even then, Korean culture is wildly different from Japanese, which is at all nothing like Chinese! :-D

The demographics would be wrong then. I know a lot of people, my age, who are really into anime. I regularly recommend Attack On Titan to people, for instance.
What's your age?

Ideally, the recommendation algorithm should recommend other Korean series (of the same genre) based on what you just watched. The recommendation should also take into account your demographics and age: Elderly gentlemen usually do not watch Japanese animation. Hey, Netflix, do you wanna hire me as your recommendation engineer? Do I have what it takes to be? Ans: Yes, I have common sense.
Especially when the only Japanese you know is "もし もし。 瑠璃子 です か"* * "Moshi moshi. Ruriko desu ka?" or "Hello. Is Ruriko there?" My Japanese girlfriend taught me that four decades ago so that I could call her when she went back to Japan. Unfortunately she didn't teach me what any of the likely responses might be / mean so it's wasn't any real use ...

What's your age?
Older than many of the users here, but not as old as the green little man in his profile pic. ;) :-D
M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

What's your age?
Definitely in the older person category. Put it this way, I was old enough to see ACDC with Bon Scott.

I watched just one Korean TV series* and suddenly it's recommending Japanese animations (with English subtitles) and Filipino Tearjerker dramas. Don't really understand why, but it smells a bit racist - as if Netflix is assuming that "Korean == Asian == Japanese == Filipino == Chinese" which is total bs. * "The Silent Sea" - dubbed into English with subtitles for the Korean language bits. Not bad at all, well acted for the most part and sufficiently suspenseful.

I've been complaining about the Netflix algorithm for years. One time I watched this dramatic movie where a Father slowly and tragically died, and Netflix goes, "since you liked that, do you want to watch Adam Sandler's Grown Ups?"
Thanks, Sean Ewington CodeProject

Try Prime instead - their algorithm recommends things it thinks you might be interested in which you've either already watched, or already have on your watch-list.

I'd noticed that myself. :sigh:

To me, it looks Netflix pretty much figured out how your brain works
