Looking for a UK-based (so I can ring them if needs be), web host for a low traffic club website, and also a personal (separate domain name) one for me to play with. I appreciate I'll have to pay to get a decent one. Anyone got any recommendations? Debbie

I think the company Paul Watson works for (http://www.bluegrassgroup.com/[^]) offers U.K. hosting, but you'd better double-check with him on that. OpenBB uses http://www.hosteurope.com/[^], if that helps. I also found these guys: http://www.aventurehost.com/[^] When all else fails, go to http://www.webhostingtalk.com[^] and post a message stating your hosting requirements. People usually get flooded with offers from competing hosting companies. Pick a good one is still somewhat of a crapshoot, though.

Have a look at http://www.zen.co.uk/[^] I've been using their ADSL service for the last 3 months which has been excellent. I'm now actively considering letting them host my site as well:cool: John Hudson Its all right - I'll tell the therapist it was all your fault, maybe they won't turn the voltage up so high on the ECT machine this time:omg: http://www.rainbow-innov.co.uk[^]

I use 1 & 1 Internet[^] for my company hosting and reccomend them to my web development clients, too. I believe they are Europe's largest and fastest growing domain host. Derek Lakin. For the domains use Easily - no hidden long term costs like 99% of the others, and no ties to use their own hosting services. I think they are something like the UK number two after that conglomerate of most of the "1p a month" companies. For the hosting I recommend OpenHosting[^]. You will struggle to find better support and yet at such a low price but still keeping quality as the most important factor. You get Windows 2000, ASP, PHP and countless extensions and addons as standard, with almost anything else as affordable extra's should you need them.

Hmm, you must be having better luck than I am with them. Over the last few weeks, attempts to get to my domain via the web or via pop3 have had a 5% success rate. Possibly my fault for taking their Windows 2003 server host package - I should have gone for a dedicated 2003 server. Also I think there web-site sucks. One of the most annoying sites I've come across. I think they've got a few growing pains. Saying all that, their dedicated Windows 2003 ASP.NET package seems like a good price and has to be worth a look at. Michael 'War is at best barbarism...Its glory is all moonshine. I haven't had a single problem with mine or any of my customers domains (so far - touch wood), but then they have all been the standard unix hosted option. I like the look of the price of their dedicated Windows 2003 server packages, but I need some financing before I can go that far :( Derek Lakin. However that got a little sidelined by paying work. When I get back to the project, I might as well upgrade to a dedicated server and get for ASP.NET hosting. This time I'll make sure the project is ready to go before sorting out the hosting - but I needed to buy the domain names quickly before they went. I don't remember the thread but someone posted http://www.webhost4life.com/hosting.asp[^] for ASP.NET hosting the other day. It looks pretty good and reasonably priced, too. All the good domain names for Code Store[^] have gone already, so I will have to think of a different name when it breaks out of it's sub domain. Derek Lakin.
