Is Noam Chomsky dead?
-
Some reports say he died. Others say he's at a hospital in Brazil. The New Stateman's page for it is 404, as was another outlet I checked.

Wiki says yes. But you know take care, it is only one source: Noam Chomsky - Wikipedia[^] What the hell, I'm really shure they showed the final date . Opening the link again, it disapeared
I'm on the phone so I'm distracted - but I skimmed the wiki, and did not see it there.

From cache: Noam Chomsky Avram Noam Chomsky[a] (December 7, 1928 – June 17, 2024) was an American professor and public intellectual known for his work in linguistics, political activism, and social criticism. Sometimes called "the father of modern linguistics",[b] Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science. He is a laureate professor of linguistics at the University of Arizona and an institute professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Among the most cited living authors, Chomsky has written more than 150 books on topics such as linguistics, war, and politics. Ideologically, he aligns with anarcho-syndicalism and libertarian socialism.

Seems yet another retraction. Given all that (the 404s, the edited wiki) I'm thinking there were initial reports he died, but he resurfaced at a hospital in Brazil.

Thanks. Yeah it was bizarre. I normally don't get taken in by hoax death reports, though I don't think this was that, as I normally do some due diligence using google if it looks like it even might be false. I thought so here when I first heard about it, so I started looking through google and I was getting hits from reputable news outlets, but when I clicked on a couple I got 404s for those links. I would expect a retraction so I wasn't entirely sure what happened. The whole thing was bizarre.

A few years ago, a now inactive member of CP "killed" a (still very much alive) famous English cricketer on Wikipedia. That, and a few other escapades, did not help to advance his desire for elected office, shall we say. But I do miss his wit occasionally.

He was, indeed, a shining wit.

Half of one, anyway.
