How fine do you grind your coffee grounds for american coffee? I'm curious to know how other people do it, as I have very little experience with that coffee making process. I use coarse for french press, midway between coarse and fine for moka, ultrafine for turkish but I never know how to grind it for american.

I just chew the beans and spit them in a cup, then pour hot water over them.

For paper baskets it's a 4 on my grinder. For brass filters it's a 3 (a bit courser, like for a french press) If you want a Americanism: At Starbucks if you ask for flat bottom grind you get a paper filter grind. You ask for a course grind for a french press or brass filter. Took me forever to figure that out.

The only thing I hate about cowboy is that when you get older and into what you're doing you forget and take that last gulp and end up with a mouth full of grit.

I always strain w/ metal strainer though plenty of grit remains but I've been successful in avoiding consuming it. Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to strain w/ a paper filter as it always clogs. Some many months ago the paper filters did the trick. I do not know what changed. The result was a smoother flavor. Also according to Harvard drinking filtered coffee results in a lower rate of death. I am not certain such is to be preferred as it may be preferable to get to the big coffee house in the sky in an expeditious manner once your number is called.

So? Many people drink wine and coffee, though not usually at the same time... :)

I guess I will have to read the Bible again. Maybe I will find the section he walks into Starbucks.

Not drinking coffee I just figured the only 'grinding' involved might be when they pull up to a drive through to grab a coffee and their car needs some work.

Only because I never would've imagined I'd watch a random YouTuber with any sort of fervor... Look for James Hoffman. That dude... he knows coffee. Edit: What I know (from watching that guy most likely) - It is really going to depend a bunch on the coffee itself. A coarser grind can maybe minimize undesirable elements with the trade off of not getting as much extraction and so requiring either more beans or acceptably milder flavor.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. It is well documented that Jesus drank wine. That does not imply that he didn't drink water, beer, or any other drink extant at the time. (I agree that coffee was not drunk in the 1st century C.E.)

Yep, that's how we call it (the technical name would be "caffè percolato" but percolato is also the liquid that forms on the bottom of thrash bags, if we say "caffè per percolazione" it's even worse because it sounds like "caffè per colazione", aka coffee for breakfast).

I won't make the obvious statement in regards to American coffee... (yes, I'm feeling homesick for Melbourne at the moment...)
