Hey all, I'll be taking a vacation up to the northeastern part of the US and into Toronto and possibly Montreal here in a couple of weeks. Our main goal is Boston but we've also decided on NYC and Washington DC. Anybody have any suggestions on what I should see or do?:) <edit>Are there any other cities or landmarks that we should visit while we are there?</edit> Brad Jennings "You're mom is nice. In Washington, DC, the Smithsonian is the only thing worth viewing. Plan on taking a week to do it right. In Boston there is much to do. The Quincy Market, the Freedom Trail (or Walk - I forget), Houlihan's Bar, and Jimbo's on the fish wharf are among my favorites. Beware Copely Plaza - they drive like idiots, there's no parking, and the underground roadways are always under construction. Outside of town there's Sturbridge Village, a carefully reconstructed pre-Revolutionary War village made entirely of period buildings. It is a living history museum, with people in it doing the things they would have done then in the same old ways. The water-powered cotton mill I found particularly fascinating, and watching the coopers hand shape the staves for barrels. It's a great place to spend en entire day. It's a shame you can't be there in September, though - the colors are quite brilliant. Have fun!

in Montreal, no matter where you go, you'll have fun. (this isn't the Soapbox, so I'll just leave it at that ;P;P ) In Toronto, I'd suggest going to see the Hockey Hall of Fame (if hockey's your game), maybe go up the CN Tower, and.....err..... the over-polluted waterfront maybe? ;P As for DC, the Smithsonian(s). Amazing stuff. As everyone said that you should go to Smithsonian in DC. But don't forget to take a guided tour of Capitol Hill. You have to wake up and arrive early to get the tickets. Also you should not miss going one top of the Washington Monument you need to get the ticket early for that too. Th emain problem will be that you will have to walk a lot.

There's tons of stuff in NYC, especially if you like walking around. Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge come to mind. I found the old city of Montreal was great, there are a lot of big old cathedrals and stuff like that. If you've ever seen the show Cheers, then you'll want to check out the Bull and Finch pub in Boston, it is right by the main park downtown. As others have mentioned, freedom trail is a good walk. If you are driving, you might also want to make a stop in Burlington VT on your way up to Canada. The waterront of Lake Champlaign is very nice and clean. <note>Try to avoid driving in NYC, Boston, DC, and Toronto if you can. There are lots of places you can park and take a subway or commuter train in. DC and NYC have excellent subway systems, and Boston and Montreal have respectable systems. I recently ate a $55 parking ticket in NYC for inadvertently staying at a meter 10 minutes too long. :omg:</note> "When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. When I was there in 1999 it had 109 beers on tap and about 3-400 others in bottles. Other then that the only places I can remember this minute are the Brew Moon and Cheers. Not bad but not as good as The Sunset Grill & Tap. There's tons of stuff in NYC, especially if you like walking around. Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge come to mind. I found the old city of Montreal was great, there are a lot of big old cathedrals and stuff like that. I know, I'd really like to go there then, but I've got school starting late August.
