Visual Studio developer roadmap
-
A new fresh roadmap was made available today[^]. Guess what? Some more fun ahead. First of all, and most important, the entire platform will be upgraded every year. In case you are developing real world projects and intend to follow the (totally mad) upgrade frenzy, bad luck! Visual C++ "...Visual C++ will offer developers C++-specific constructs to access Whidbey CLR capabilities, including generics..." ==> not sure, but wasn't C++ supposed to conform to ISO C++ standard ? Visual C# "...Finally, Whidbey will enable C# developers to split types consisting of a large amount of source code into several different source files using partial types. Providing easier development and code maintenance, partial types enable developers to separate machine-generated and user-written parts of a type in order to more effectively supplement or modify code generated by a tool..." ==> yet, C# language is supposed to be used by newbies. Winforms "...an Active Document Container for hosting Office documents (will be included)..." ==> So WELCOME BACK OLE!!!!! "...a Web browser control that can be accessed safely by way of managed code..." ==> this conversedly says that dragging components from the toolbox does not work that well. Could it be that the product does not deliver as marketed ? "...In addition, implementation of multithreaded applications will be simplified through large investments in the Windows Forms asynchronous programming model..." ==> the use of multithreading is impossible without the knowledge of the CLR internals. Period. Selling this as a feature, and while we are at it an easy feature to play with, is a lie. ... Unfortunately, there is one thing not even mentioned. The MSDN documentation? Obviously it won't be improved. May be even worse with a bloat load of breaking features, it will be harder than ever to get anything relevant out from it. Taking advantage of InternetExplorer to steal user's name and password. Taking advantage of InternetExplorer to steal user's clipboard.

Why don't you move on to Slashdont already? I respect your skills you show in yur articles, and your opinion. But your constant "picking out the bad news" gets on my nerves today.

Good one, the company is getting new contracts, and as a result is growing and will develop itself into a few more countries. Bad one, the development services are offshored to Asia to reduce the R&D costs and provide constant return value for our shareholders. " Peterchen, you don't want to listen to bad news, and feel ok about it? Ok. Taking advantage of InternetExplorer to steal user's name and password. Taking advantage of InternetExplorer to steal user's clipboard.

My rant against the marketing side versus the reality check does make perfect sense on a MS supported site. It also open doors for further discussions. Contrary, it would be just another con on Slashdot. Taking advantage of InternetExplorer to steal user's name and password. Taking advantage of InternetExplorer to steal user's clipboard.

I'm put off by your recently introduced trend to pick only the bad part of the news. [edit]pertaining only one company [/edit]
