Here's an idea that I don't have time to implement myself. Write an app like the Task Manager (there's lots of code out there) or Startup Manager and combine it with a database of well-known programs that run at start-up, such as the ones here: Startup Tasks. When you run the program, it will not only show you what programs your computer runs at startup, but also displays for each one a description of the program and whether it's safe to disable. Any takers? Dave Goodman dgoodman@infoway.com www.dkgoodman.com "Actio sequitur esse."

Not a bad idea, You could it to go online to update it's database from an XML file or whatever as well. Also you could use it to spot stuff that starts like MSBLAST.EXE, and kill the process as soon as it appeared. Regardz Colin J Davies

The process of a worm/virus that was taking out alot of computers two or three weeks ago. "We will thrive in the new environment, leaping across space and time, everywhere and nowhere, like air or radiation, redundant, self-replicating, and always evolving." -unspecified individual

But yeah, something like that :), only it tells you more about how necessary each item is, with links to the publisher's home page if available, and a way for users to collaborate and add comments and new entires, with automatic updates. Here's another source of info on startup tasks, with hints on how to remove and how to learn more: Processes List. Dave Goodman dgoodman@infoway.com www.dkgoodman.com "Actio sequitur esse."

I was going to include this in my settings manager app, but I never finished it.
