The Tigress is Here

One for Trollslayer: The Tigress is Here[^] This is a female Sumatran tiger and it's the only pic I managed to get of her with my digi-camera 'cos she was running round, jumping, and playing just like a kitten. Saw her at the South Lakes Wildlife Park and met the owner and founder of the park, David Gill, who's pioneered getting his tigers and lions to make real effort to get to their food rather than just be given it at a set time every day. One method he uses is to hang their food from large wooden poles that the cats have to climb up. It really is spectacular seeing a huge Amur (Siberian) tiger climb a 20ft pole in a few leaps to get to its "prize": http://www.wildanimalpark.co.uk/welfare/enrichment.htm[^] Best of all, the park's main function other than education, is providing funding for protecting, amongst others, the Sumatran tiger as there's only 400 of these beautiful creatures left. Just thought I'd give them a plug - visit the site and adopt a tiger! :) "The folly of man is that he dreams of what he can never achieve rather than dream of what he can." "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance."

Now that is damn cool.... Tigers are my favorite critters, and I've always been amazed at the sheer power of them. The pic of the Siberian climbing the telephone pole is great :)

Gorgeous critter! We have a new animal park opening here soon. It was a tiny place down by Phoenix, but they recently acquired a huge property north of here. I'm looking forward to visiting, though I doubt that they'll have any Sumatran Tigers. Gigantic, radiation-mutated Fire Ants, maybe, but not tigers...
