In Italy, to register an international or european patent the minimum cost is from 2000 to 3000 euro. Is it the same price also in other countries?

Hi, Roughly so. I've just been through this process world-wide and for some countries you will need to use an agency as it's too complex otherwise. Old Simon HB9DRV

Think this way: the first one to patent something, is the guy who owns it. So, if somebody patents something you own, he may sue you and ask a "compensation" for damages. It's arguable, you may have some strong proofs of prior art, but you still will battle on the court, and on some countries, judges just love when a local guy wins. You can do it on anything you choose - from .bat to .net - A customer
