Just got the new msdn magazine. I haven't opened it yet but on the cover is an article about blogging. Is it really that popular? What am I missing? Is it useful or just a fad? Jeff Patterson Programmers speak in Code. http://www.anti-dmca.org[^]

Jeff Patterson wrote: Is it really that popular? Yes, but in kinda the same way tamagotchi was. There's a large group who go nuts over it, a few more who know what it is, and finally everyone else who doesn't give a shit. Jeff Patterson wrote: What am I missing? Text. And pictures. And the innermost thoughts, hopes, dreams, and desires of the Web's own Beautiful People. But mostly text. Jeff Patterson wrote: Is it useful or just a fad? Yes, and ye-no-maybe. Blogs have been around for years - .plan files, Slashdot, and countless similar things could all be considered blogs. The difference now, is it's suddenly rather easy to do your own. Think of it like this: the web existed before geocities, but afterwards was much larger. Some of this new web was good, useful, informative, important to someone. Most of it was worthless. But eventually "come visit my homepage!!!!! i just got some new animated .gifs!!1!" got old, and the crap sunk to the bottom. I predict the same will happen to blogging.

Move along. There's nothing to see here. BLOGS are trendy me-too crap, just like the web itself is. If you want to be a TRUE lemming, just start using some sort of instant messaging program, or even better, one of those stupid phones that allows you to "text" people and learn how to spell poorly in the process because you're in a hurry, driving, or just want to be "cool" by using an inane string of incomprehensible, off-the-wall, and seemingly arbitrary abbreviations. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 "You won't like me when I'm angry..." - Dr. Bruce Banner Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends
