Yep, that one's right up there with Bill SerGio's gem: "Keep your eye on the donut and NOT upon the hole!" If your nose runs and your feet smell, then you're built upside down.
The Bill SerGio connection is not one I'd hoped for. :| David

I agree the recording industry has missed the boat/been ignorant on the new technology, but is it fair to compare the amount that they get ripped off vs the amount that the movie industry does? Songs on average are ~3.5MB Movies on average are ~700MB Therefore, I can download 1 movie, or 200 songs in the same amount of bandwidth. I remember in 97ish when I first got into mp3s, I had the misfortune of getting into Pink Floyd and the Allmans at the same time, both of whom are know for their "epic" lengthed songs. At that time everyone was using 33-56K modems. Have you ever tried downloading Mountain Jam (33 minutes) or Echoes (23 minutes) on a 56K modem? Ughh. It was easier for me to drive (or hell maybe even walk) into town and buy the CD. As my avg connection speed has increased over the last 5 years, the more mp3s I've downloaded and the less CDs I've bought. I think movies are at a place now where mp3s were back in 97ish. If, in 5/10 years everyone can download a movie in 10/15 minutes, (and have 100TB HDDs to hold the collection) you may see more movies getting ripped off. Now, that aside, lets get to the real issue: I think for the most part, both modern films and music stink! This could be the worst era in the history of entertainment! (I don't think anything will ever be as bad as the 80s in my book, but the 00s are gaining fast) Here's how I view this debate: I can buy a DVD, and have a new frisbee for the dog, or I can buy a CD and have a shiny new beer coaster. I'll keep my money, or spend it on something useful, like a Code Project T-shirt
My 20 favorite films:

I have been trying to come back for about two months now. I have only managed to start making regular time for CP in the last couple of weeks though. I have been trying to answer questions where I can and read what I can to catch up. Basically for the last year+ I have been so swamped in work that I have not had time to do anything else. I am only just starting to get my life, (read work), far enough under control to allow for time to do anything but fix friggin computers. :( No time for my car, no time for my programming, no time for Neverwinter Nights, NO TIME!!! ahem, sorry about that. can you tell that the lack of time to work on my own things has been driving me a little batty? ;p But I am getting things under control. I have managed to find time to fix virtually all of the car issues I was having. I have managed to get a character going in NN. And I am finally back on CP! :-D How are things going with you Mr. Watson?

--Chris MaunderGlad to hear you are getting your priorities straight again :) My life has been very good of late. While I still spend far too much time on CP work has also been hectically busy. Days, weeks and weekends have merged into an eat-sleep-work-post cycle. My choice though, not a situation I am resenting in anyway. Oh I did get time off a few weeks ago. Went to Greece, met a German girl, had a blast. So yes, life is good. :-D regards, Paul Bluegrass South Africa Ravi Bhavnani wrote: it's sold on EBay and shipped from China (on how to inspire confidence in your product) Crikey! ain't life grand?

Paul Watson wrote: Glad to hear you are getting your priorities straight again Exactly, this is all an exercise in priorities. For instance, I am presently supposed to be inputting notes for my time log so our accounting department can finish billing. See how my priorities are sorting out. Paul Watson wrote: Went to Greece, met a German girl, had a blast. Damn! I never thought to go to Greece to meet a German girl! I always figured that I would need to go to Germany to do that. ;p I really need to figure out how to take a vacation here soon. I have 15 days of sick leave/vacation saved up and it disappears at the end of the year if I don't take it. Going to Greece is, unfortunately, not in the cards. Or at least not in the pocket book. If I could only afford the flight over I am sure I could afford to get smashed and play the tourist in Cape Town, but that flight is a killer, so I am afraid we'll have to put off having a beer at your local pub. :sigh: Anyway, I'm off to explain what I did with my time over the last two weeks. (Ah, the life of a consultant.)
