Nothing worse than watching the tv without a remote, I have seen a generic remote control from sony which can control most tv's, if your tv is not very old you can try that as an option. Usually I have seen people recommend wearing a anti-glare type of glasses, to me 0.5 seems to be a power you should wear only if you have some vision problems. Meanwhile did you do the computerised test or the general ones, i've been adviced to do it bothways to double check, computerised tests can be sometimes wrong. You have just reminded me for visiting the eye-doctor, its been ages since I did my last check up, in fact I dont remember the last time. The mere thought of imagining me with spectacles makes me feel bad. Regards, Kannan

You would make life difficult for your monitor if you put a higher refresh rate than your monitor can support. I had it at 75 and after shog's post I changed to 85, but didn't see any change. Regards, Kannan

Reminds me of one of my coworkers - he runs his 21" monitor at 1600x1200 or some other ungodly huge resolution, and at 60Hz. Can't tell the difference between 60Hz and greater. Of course, i stand with my face 3ft away from the screen and am completely unable to read the text...

I moved from 14" to 17" at my previous work. I did have a 15" temporarily, in between. But the shift from 14" to 17" was an enjoyable experience. Congrats on the new monitor! Actually I've been using 17"s for about an year now at home. Now that 19" are more affordable(13k) I think they start around 13k but again the TFT's are tempting too, but I guess it would take some more time for the prices to come down. Its all because of the tax put on by the government, I thought we would get away with all the taxes sometime this year(some kinda agreement we had signed which forces for a zero percent tax in due course), seems like it would take some more time :( Regards, Kannan

Uhm If you were an American you could have afforded a 19" or even a 21" LCD monitor ;-) but of course since you'd be an American and thus prone to watching TV at close quarters and playing video games as a kid you'd be wearing glasses by the time you are 12 :-D Nish

On a serious note, it is impossible to "loose" your sight due to overuse, e.g. watching too much television etc.

Hi all, I have been having frequent headaches recently, especially after long hours in front of the monitor and I went for a check up at the eye doc. And it seems my eye sight is perfect. But the doc said maybe I can use a 0.5 specs, so that it will enable better viewing, thereby reducing the strain on my eye. She said I need to use it only when I am using computers or while reading books. I chose a frame and have placed the order for the specs. I am going to collect it today afternoon. I am unsure what the specs will do to my looks :-O I am not sure how many of you use specs for this kind of a purpose. I think I will use it for a while and see if its really useful :~ Cheers Smitha You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. Please be sure to send a pic of you in your new spectacles! I'd enjoy seeing you looking intellectual, rather than merely beautiful.:-D "Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything,

But the doc said maybe I can use a 0.5 specs, so that it will enable better viewing, thereby reducing the strain on my eye. Been there, done that. I never had the need for glasses, but the headaches at work were too much. The first doctor gave me a very light prescription, with anti-glare coating. That worked for a while, but my eyes were worse for my next checkup. That doctor increased the strength, and eventually I had to start wearing the glasses more often for other things. At work, I started shutting off one set of overhead lights, and I could actually use the computer without glasses for a while. Eventually I got an LCD at home and at work, and I no longer use the glasses, and my eyesight is improving. My conclusions from this experience: Monitor glass is not your friend, it reflects light directly in your eyes, Glasses are not your friend, you begin to rely on them too much, Overhead lights are not your friends, shut them off and put a light off to the side or somewhere where there will be no glare off the monitor, Lower the brightness, make white a bit less extreme, Monitor size is irrelevent, I was using 19-23" monitors, and I am now at 17" LCD's and I can see, Anti-glare coating is good if you get glasses, but try to have NO prescription on the glasses, Doctors need to sit in front of a monitor and actually understand what is happening. Now I can park myself in front of my monitor and still have 20-20 vision:). Good luck with everything, Shawn
