I find the microbes story that's circulating to be real unlikely. After the amount of radiation that tin can has had, any microbes would be well cooked. Regardz Colin J Davies

However the leaked Microbes story [^] is more likely to do with NASA wanting more funding. If there is a belief that life may exist around Jupiter, the public are more likely to accept NASA's funding for exploration projects. While I for one love space research, NASA is run like an old Roman Circus, providing entertainment for the masses. I'm sure a lot of Americans feel patriotic everytime NASA pulls of a big mission/stunt. Regardz Colin J Davies

Lot less elaborate and more understandable ways of doing that than some story about microbes on Galileo. Isn't Galileo nuclear powered? BOOM! Now there is a story the public can love. "Save the Europans from a nuclear holocaust!" Better yet. Announce that fact, announce plunging it into Jupiter. Then announce the probe going AWOL, suddenly on a direct collision course with Europa. Immediate design and launch of a recovery probe is needed. The movie rights alone will be huge. I think it is good that NASA tries to turn it into an adventure, because it is. It is amazing and it is good to have this wonderful vision to cheer for. Not just American IMO. Entertain me, thrill me, wonder me. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Miszou wrote: I have read the entire internet. on how boring his day was. Crikey! ain't life grand?

Gosh you have a vivid immagination. After the Challenger and Columbia stuff I don't think NASA are keen on stuff going BOOM. The microbe story leads to a lot of other implications. Lets say: If NASA are genuinely worried about microbes infecting Europa, then Europa is a good candidate for "terra forming": So. Europa then just needs relocating to a near Earth orbit. That could probably be done in a couple of millenium. Regardz Colin J Davies
