Increasing the number of bits used to encode an *existing* mp3 is an exercise in futility and a waste of disk space, because you won't gain an increase in the sound quality of the mp3 - you already lost that in the original rip. That's why it's called lossy compression :-D -- Ian Darling "The moral of the story is that with a contrived example, you can prove anything." - Joel Spolsky

Hi, Is there any free tool/utility to increase the quality of an MP3 song? An MP3 song with 128kbit doesn't sound as nice in my MP3 Player as an MP3 song with 192kbit. Is there any tool to increase the "kbit" of an MP3 song? By the way is this "kbit" the rate at which the original analog song was sampled at when it was converted to digital format? Thanks, Melwyn

Nope, in fact it's not a sample rate - it's a transfer rate, and should read kbps. As others have already stated, information that's not there can't just be pulled out of thin air.

You can't do it. Because the original info no longer exists in the lower quality MP3.
