Does anyone have any experience with software that can make an animated program demo - i.e., create a movie-like animation of a program, with text boxes, cursor movement, etc., that could be put on a web page to show how your program works?

You can either take a video capture of you doing the demo yourself and play it in something like Media Player, etc. Or, you could go the Macromedia Director or Macromedia Flash route. The only thing I don't like about the latter option is that in the license Macromedia requires you put the "Made With Macromedia" logo in your standalone movies (i.e.; doesn't require the flash player). BTW, if you want to show it over the web and keep bandwidth within reason, then you better encode your video or go the Macromedia route. Jeremy Falcon

vnc2swf. Never tried it, but it seems simple and cool :) Perl combines all the worst aspects of C and Lisp: a billion different sublanguages in one monolithic executable. It combines the power of C with the readability of PostScript. -- Jamie Zawinski

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you need, but Qarbon[^] ViewletBuilder might be what you're looking for. I have no experience with it, but I've seen a lot of program demos created using this tool (it outputs Macromedia Flash swf files and allows you to add tooltips and notes to the demo, and probably has a lot of other features for demo creation). rado

I've used CamStudio to record my screen activity, and play it back. It creates an avi file. "For all of our languages, we cannot communicate" - Christy Moore, Natives
