Hi, My cousin formated one of his disk partitions where he had the installation image of his PC. Hopefully we can recover its content because he thinks he did a quick format on it. (I have no way to prove this...) Anyway, does anyone knows an utility to recover the information on the disk? Thanks in advance Gabriel Old C programmers never die. They just cast into void

IMHO it would be best to leave this to the experts. There are many companies out there who will recover HDD information for you. Ant.

As far as I know its no simple task to extract the information from such a disk. I think its better you take it to someone who knows what they are doing rather than follow some instructions online (well intentioned though they may be) Good Luck " Invading armies can be stopped but nothing can stop an idea whose time has come " - Voltaire

Unless there's a cheap utility available to do it, you're definitely right. Professional recovery services charge far more than the value of the entire computer. Will Build Nuclear Missile For Food - No Target Too Small

How about Active® UNERASER[^]? It was the first link from this search[^]. Michael Martin Australia "I suspect I will be impressed though, I am easy." - Paul Watson 21/09/2003

Thanks for the suggestions. I've already tried Uneraser and R-Studio demos. The first was no good but the second showed me almost all the data that was on disk and saved some random files that i chose correctly. But there are some more utilities to try... The idea is to try most of them, and then buy the one that seems more accurate. If this goes right, well, excellent! If not, let him buy the lost software again when he needs it... It's not just the OS, it's OS + AV + MS Money + MS Works + Easy CD Creator, and we are from a third world country! Thanks Gabriel Old C programmers never die. They just cast into void

I used R-Studio NTFS[^] recently. It worked great on a damaged drive that XP wouldn't recognize. Drew.
