Hi, When you compile your COM library you need to #define the appropriate WINVER, _WIN32_WINNT and _WIN32_IE. By setting these values the windows headers will #include or exclude specific functions/libraries. You may receive some compilation errors after setting these values. Do not panic... you will need to use LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress at runtime to determine if the functions are available. Some Win7 features may not be available on WinXP so you may need to re-implement some portions of your application for backwards compatibility. In looking through this document: http://www.vijaymukhi.com/documents/books/xsd/chap8.htm it appears as though you need to use XmlSerializerNamespaces and pass that into the Serializer. It associates the namespace prefix with the tag and uses the colon as a separator.

Try CCmdUI interface for that menu command. In ClassWizzard you actually have 2 messages for a menu_item: ON_ID_menu_item:COMMAND and ON_ID_menu_item:UPDATE_COMMAND_UI. Use the second one for the purpose you face to.

Thanks. I actually did look into it and after A LOT of digging, I finally found an answer on Microsoft's website. According to MS, Office 97 and earlier was created using the MDI design. But Office 2000 and Office 2002 was created using the SDI design. You are correct, there is a setting that can be turned on or off to do what is wanted. It is under Tools, then Options, and on the View tab, uncheck the Windows in Taskbar. This will bring up multiple documents in one instance.

If you used the Amit Dey article, I have had this problem as well. And I have not come up with a way to check for an existing instance, since it uses ATL...
