Sure, those things exist in the database, but are they objects in your code?? Or do those references return "Nothing", or null in the C, C++, C# worlds. When the code breaks and returns to the debugger, you can check to see if those objects actually return anything by hovering the mouse of them or looking in the Local Watch window. If you know how to use the framework the language does not matter. You can do the same things with each other. I was forced to work with c# 2.0. Forced, meaning I was too lazy to install vb express after downloading it. Anyhow I found that the intellisense was better than vb.net 2.0, and the code environment was well suited. For e.g. in between my lines of code I make a call to a function I have not written before I get small auto options to create the function. Plus, I like the way c# has handled writing delegates. While registering for a delegate it will suggest a function, and then if I choose to use what it suggests it, creates a function with the signature of the delegate. This is something totally absent in vb.net. Not sure how it work in vb.net 2008+. And then I had the opportunity to write the whole thing in vb.net but I found writing it in c# was better because of the above features. But be forewarned: these are not features of the language; rather they are features of the c# editor. Language wise I don't see the difference as long as they target the same framework.

This may sound daft, but have you tried it by populating a command and then setting the dataadapter.selectcommand to the command?

Thanks for your reply, After much head scratching I figured out that I was trying to connect to a SQL Server Compact db when in fact I should have been trying to connect to a sql server 2005 db. A good noobie mistake I hope. With that I have hit another stumbling block. I have opened my connection and I have setup up my DataAdapter and Im trying to fill my dataset and follows da = New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM Testing", conn) da.Fill(ds) Testing is the name of a table in My Database, conn is my connection that has been opened. When I run the code I get a runtime error saying that System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled Class=16 ErrorCode=-2146232060 LineNumber=1 Message="Invalid object name 'Testing'." I dont know what is wrong. Im able to open a populate a dataset when I use Access but I have hit wall after wall with SQL Server :((
