I'm not so sure why, but when I commented out the MessageBox in the main program, it did not crash. It installed and removed the hook successfully (to my knowledge). I have another problem though. With the hook installed, if I try to open another program, like Internet Explorer or some kind of software, Windows Crashes. It freezes and then all my icons dissappear and the taskbar goes away, leaving only the background and the cursor. Anyone have any idea why this would be happening? Any help is appreciated. Use the application "Character Map" which comes with windows. In Windows XP, it's located in Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools. Double click the copyright symbol, click copy, and then paste it into your C++ code. Or use the hex code \0xa9 in the string. Like this: "Copyright \x0a9 2004" -- Suche Wissen über Alles. a CD has nothing "written" on it! there are pits and pats (or whatever they are called... dunno). a change between pit and pat is a 1, if it doesnt change then it is 0. to read the binary sectors from a CD you will need IOCTLs or even better SCSI. IOCTL_CDROM_RAW_READ is the IOCTL, but i dont know if you will find it in MSDN, my doc is part of the DDK. if you want to use SCSI then have a look at CDex src. Don't try it, just do it! ;-)

GetLogicalDrives() will tell you which drive letters exist on the system. First off, remove the calls to UpdateData(), and use member control variables instead. Second, what you've created is a "worker" thread, or a thread with no message pump. A thread with no message pump should in no way be interacting with the UI. That is what a "UI" thread, or a thread with a message pump, is for.
