Hi, I am an almost 50 year old middle school maths teacher in Sweden and prior to this year I have had little experience in teaching programming (thanks to corona I have been able to learn a little during the summer staycation). In Sweden, and I suppose other countries, there has been in recent times a concerted effort to include programming into the primary and middle school curriculii. In primary (years 1 - 6) Scratch and Swift are acceptable however in middle (years 7 - 9) pupils should learn a modular written language. I feel that I could plan lessons that are relevant to my pupils (you have to understand, form their perspective, python is English or Greek as some of my pupils have said), however my knowledge of programming lets me down. Can I give an example: Children love Easter eggs. I have a file that is locked with a 4 digit pin code and the pupils need to crack it to show its contents. I can help them write the code to crack the pin but i cannot lock the file in the first place. I could try myself to discover how to do this but I'm tired, I have a job and I will be retired by the time I learn enough to answer my own question. Even if I know how children learn I need the help of kind specialists to help with the practical.
