Sounds like you're abusing the dataset as a local cache. If you want to cache your data locally, consider using a local database and a synchronization framework; it'd save you a lot of redundant calls. Alternatively, you can find all that has been added using plain SQL; perform a SELECT WHERE NOT IN and pass the values for the primary keys of the records in your dataset. Deleting would be something similar. For updates, one could use a timestamp (think "lastmodified"-field).
