I got back around to this eventually, and it worked immediately. Who knows what it was. :sigh:

When I go to my settings and select Password change, I get a dropdown asking me for my old and new passwords, but it does not let me enter any text anywhere, so I am unable to make any change. How do I change my password?

My 21-year-old son uses imperial for cooking; I'm not sure about what he uses for anything else. I'm happy with inches or centimeters but definitely prefer miles to kilometers. I prefer Celsius to Fahrenheit. I prefer ounces to grams, I'm happy with pounds or kilograms until it gets into the range where I can use stones. Mind you, I work in aviation, where we measure height in feet and visibility in meters...

It means that they're good at a particular sort of analytic thinking. It doesn't mean that they're good at anything else (and "anything else" includes applying that particular sort of analytic thinking.

Do Celtic Woman do instrumentals? I thought they were essentially a vocal group. Worth checking out Patrick Street, Boys of the Lough and Iona (the band, not the Iona community worship group -- stuff like this) too.

Maybe the coding horror is premature optimisation? Unless the programmer has determined that this is a bottleneck, the better one is the one that expresses the logic most clearly (the one without the extra test, for my money), not the one with the lowest "cost". And if the programmer has determined that this is a bottleneck, they can use the same tools to find out which is faster.
