Do I presume correctly that the concerns you have are with WinXP Home Edition? Does WinXP Pro Edition have these same issues? I do know that the hardware drivers for XP Home Ed. are NOT the same as XP Pro Ed., and that many peripheral and third party software vendors are advertising on their websites "WinXP Pro Edition drivers coming soon...". I perused a quick glimpse of a comparison between XP Home and XP Pro and the Pro Ed. seems to have better potential security provisions available, the incompatible driver model issue notwithstanding.
