I'm not from Belize, but worked there for a few weeks once. I would recommend sticking to the resorts. It's not necessarily *suicide* to venture from the beaten tourist path, but there are definitely some unsavory characters out there, and if I were returning on pleasure (as opposed to business) I would take care to avoid Belize City as much as possible. All that said, if you're out on Ambergris Key, you're probably fine wherever. One other neat trick in Belize is that they don't have Daylight Savings time (or rather, didn't have it when I was there,) which means that during the summer months, dawn breaks about 3:30-4am and is high and bright by 5am. If you're easily affected by such things, be prepared. Good Luck Ian
