if u dont want to use openrowset or bcp then best way is use string builder and then response.write with response.AppendHeader("Content-Type", "application/vnd.ms-excel"); here you can give file name n storage location too. But i fear I can't deploy a .chm file with my application due to similar expected problems on the clients. Isn't there a more reliable (local) help technology on the market than .chm ? Hi Jimmanuel, thanks for your answer. The VS2008 installer addeted automaticly the Prerequisite (but the wrong one) .NET v3.5 instead of .NET v2.0 (my app was compiled for .NET2.0) and left the componentID free. So I came back to my question - where to get this componentID (GUID) or what checks the installer to determine if the correct version is installer or not. - The article doesn't tells somthing about it. Oh yes, that's the problem. Due to the hierarchical structure of my Form each control is a container of controls. I tested my method and it works, for one container, but it doesn't help me with the problem. my intention was to reference a control by its name (as a string) independant of the location of the control. But the index is not unique and the prerequisite is the known of the hierarchical structure of my form. Changing the form would change the indices. Isn't there an other way ? txn Frank

I can only think that your event is not bound to the text control. If the validating event is cancelled then the focus will stay on the text control. In the textbox's properties check the events and at the bottom look at Validating it should be (in the example) textBbox1_Validating

Hi Luc, good idea. My feeling is that this could be a runtime problem (loading the relating lib's on the first start). Later the lib's are in the file cache and the problem does not occur. In parallel I will test your suggestion. Thank's Frank
