Dude! I feel ya pain brutha!! The rant you posted could've not come at a better time. I was just lamenting to my soon-to-be spouse about the sorry state of affairs on my development team. It's as if we are working for the same boss! There have been some good replies to your original post. I think my approach going forward will be to continue to make good suggestions (and document that the suggestions have been made), but in the end obey my boss's commands. One way I can make suggestions is in the context of doing what's best for the team, and hopefully help her see the light in that manner. Obviously I can't go to her and tell her that she is the sorriest development manager I have ever worked for or she might take that personally :-) My best bet is to keep it impersonal and in the context of doing what's best for the company, the team, and ultimately her. Leaving the company is not an option for me because I love it too much. For now I'll just have to suck it up. If things do not improve over time as I build trust with her, then eventually I will have to raise my concerns up a level (i.e. to the boss's boss). Politically this is risky, but I have good relationships with leaders who are higher up the food chain than she is. My boss is politically savvy and knows how to cover her tracks to keep people appeased, but I think eventually it will catch up to her and she will be replaced.
