It sounds like the resource classes and the remoting classes should be independent of one another. When the service starts it can create and manage whatever resources it's designed to manage and then use remoting simply as a message channel that clients can use to connect and issue commands to the service.

One thing no one really addressed is why you need to be able to do this? What is the problem you are trying to solve where you think you need to know the type of a null object? J4amieC has given you the correct answer above. It's the difference between explicit and implicit. If you want to change a value from one type to another in code then if an implicit operator exists you can just set one to equal the other. If not, you have to explicitly cast to the type you require. The same applies to interfaces. If you implement them explicitly then the cast is required in any classes that derive from the class where the implementation was made. i'm not sure, but i think that Thread.IsAlive is a bit dangerous... msdn says about Thread.IsAlive : "true if this thread has been started and has not terminated normally or aborted otherwise false" so if an exception comes up in your dataprocessing you have a autoResetEvent that signals something and nobody listening. -- modified at 5:01 Thursday 29th November, 2007 never mind.. It will be all referenced assemblies, but not necessarily all assemblies in the project. Referenced assemblies are those that are actually listed in the References tree in Visual Studio and imported by namespace into the project. This does not look like acceptable syntax. In C# you always should specify the parameter type in the declaration. C# does not support default parameters. If you intend your sample to mean a method call, private void are irrelevant qualifiers. I don't thing C# supports method calls with this syntax. Rudolf Heijink

Hello, Additionaly to what Christian and Luc where telling you (which was 100% correct of course), I made the expirience that you also have to set the "testObj" to 'null'. I would suggest to override the Dispose method of the SecondForm, where you remove the delegates and set it null. All the best, Martin

There is a System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeCompatibilityAttribute for assemblies that tells the runtime whether to wrap all "exceptions" that do not derive from System.Exception with a System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeWrappedException.
