The Caption property isn't used to set the headers of a DataGridView (for example) when you use it as a DataSource - it probably should have been, but it definitely wasn't! Hi Michael, It might be helpful to know if you are speaking "in general" here, or if you have a specific scenario in mind. Is it the case that you want what is shown to provide information to persist until the user "tells it to go away," or is a ToolTip, which you do have some control over how long it stays visible, good enough. Do you have a certain type of user in mind here: a programmer, for example; or, a very non-technical end-user ? I'm guessing you intend this for a programmer. Since the error comes up with multi-threading only, I'd think it is the block of code where you create and start the threads: do you provide enough parameters for the methods to be started in different threads, and also not too many parameters?

That's the standard pattern. If it's not working, there's something you haven't told us and/or are not showing us. The code listed in the first reply is the way to do it, so long as the controls were created on the UI thread and your long-running code is on a different thread, be it directly launched with the Thread class, a Task or in a BackgroundWorker. You cannot start a thread on a seperate computer. If you want to use blade servers, each will have to run a seperate copy of your app and you'll have to come up with some way to spread the number of datasets over the set of servers and communicate with each. You can call your click Event in simple method whenever you required.There is no need of button click.

If it's not already using threading for the calculations and if the calculations may take some time, then it would probably be a good idea. To add to Mycroft's answer, all long running operations should be done on a separate thread to the UI. The problem with that is you cannot update the UI from a different thread. The BackgroundWorker[^] component is a perfect fit for this situation as it's ProgressChanged and RunWorkerCompleted events will be raised on your UI thread so that problem is solved, and the DoWork event is raised on the worker thread so you don't have to get involved any more than that. If you need to pass data around then the various methods/event arguments have an object you can use, alternatively I made a generic version which you can find here[^]. I Solved the probem, I realized after you wrote the above the control I am accessing is the original not the copy I added to my form, so I did the following in the form: this.ctrlMainControl1.numericUpDownAccount.Value = nAccountID; this changes he value of the copy of the control not the original control.
