Your page_load event will get called each time there is a postback. So when you click your save button it's setting your flag back to -1. you should look at: page.isPostBack

You'll need to do it programmatically. Make your masterpage have a public class and a public function that will add stylsheets based on a passed in variable. In your content page's code behind, call this function with that page specific CSS.

You can use Skins and set the SkinID of the master page in the page load of your page. You could put some javascript in the page that sets the href on the link tag. You could put all your styles in one stylesheet and have the master refer to that rather than having lots of different stylsheets that you need to switch between. There are lots of options.

Put a form tag with runat="server" in master page. Put your Gridview in ContentPane of child page. That will do.
