We have remote desktop servers installed at the office for remote programers to use. I did a lot of research on this, and they have special hardware that optimizes the remote workstation experience. Plus you can setup a hyper visor, and run several virtual machines that serve as remote workstations, so you can load up 2 or 3 or them in the same box. With graphics, you need one hell of a GPU like the NVidia Quatro Card for fast processing. Most slow remote sessions are from the host not being able to run fast enough, to send the remote screen data across the wire and back. I know of a lot of companies in the middle east, in which the employees remote in from the UAE into Saudi Arabia, so they don't have to live there and work. I just bought a Dell Solution and let my friend set it up for me, and it works fine. No complaints so far from my remote contractors. The Solution is there. If there's only one project in the solution it's hidden in Solution Explorer by default. The fix this, go to Tools -> Options... -> Projects and Solutions on the left. If you absolutely must use the same functionality, add a reference to DAO. The TableDef and Fields objects are defined there.

Assuming your DLL contains native code, you would need P/Invoke to call that from a managed language such as C# or VB.NET; here is an article that should get you on the right track: pinvoke1[^]. Not sure about the full answer but when moving projects in this way you should only move the directories containing source code, and rebuild everything from scratch in the new location. Try doing a clean of your project, delete all obj and bin directory trees, reset all references to ensure they point to the correct DLLs on the new machine, check your project dependencies (if any), and then try building the project(s) again. speaking as ...

Some desktops have 3 output built-in (VGA, DVI and HDMI)... but whenever possible uses digital connection (DVI or HDMI) instead of analog (VGA). When screen are next to other, the difference of quality is visible when screen are side-to-side. For the same reason, you would prefer that each screen would be of similar quality. I have 2 screens (running in Full HD resolution) and I rarely use the second one. Only occasionnaly when I want to compare things. I would not recommand an USB monitor as the performance is far behind. I once tried one small picture frame that could be used as a monitor and I returned because I was not satisfied as it perform realy poorly. Full HD resolution is highly recommanded if you use Visual Studio. Philippe Mori

Hi, three comments: 1. for serial communications .NET offers the SerialPort class (starting .NET 2.0). It works fine for me. Warning: its DataReceived event fires on a ThreadPool thread (see #3 below). 2. There are several timer classes in .NET; which one you use best depends on what it needs to do. Example: for Control manipulations (say displaying real time, updating every second) you best use System.Windows.Forms.Timer which ticks on the GUI thread. 3. only the main aka GUI thread is allowed to touch Controls; if you violate this rule strange things are bound to happen. I strongly suspect that one of the controls you are using in your upgraded application uses some method/control from the VB6 dll. That is the only way I know that the dll can get loaded in InitializeComponent().
