What I did, which was kind of slow maybe to create an autoupdater was to get my program to connect to the server, navigate to updates folder and open a file which was similar to an ini file. Get the current version of the program the user is running, set a variable for each new version like; Version 1.10a = 1 and Version 1.10b = 2 etc. On the server say the new version is Version 1.10c which = 3, try like: Note this is using CIniEx as an example... CString strVersion; ini.Open("Version.ini"); strVersion=ini.GetValue("Program","Version"); if(strVersion == "3") //Just an example, or just get the string value from a file on the webserver { //You have the current version } else { //Open another file to get the location of the new updated program and then download it and execute it } Just a suggestion....bit hard to explain considering Im a complete knob. Use CreateProcess() to easily retrieve the windows handle ~RaGE();

Try to use the ShellExecute API command. See the MSDN libraray for details. ShellExecute should do the job.

hi there if you only want to check if the file is existing you can do that like that : CString csMyFile = "c:\\temp\\some.file.dat"; CFileStatus statusFile; BOOL bExists = CFile::GetStatus( csMyFile, statusFile ); return( bExists ); But i guess the crash is a result of that : HANDLE hFile; LPWIN32_FIND_DATA FileData; hFile=FindFirstFile(str,FileData); You should not only pass a pointer to FindFirstFile(..). It must be a pointer to an existing WIN32_FIND_DATA-struct !!! If you only pass a pointer to "SomeWhereInMemory" and FindFirstFile starts writing data about an existing file ... it writes to "SomeWhereInMemory" .... and that no good idea ! look at the VC++ MSDN-Help about FindFirstFile : pFindFileData : Pointer to the WIN32_FIND_DATA structure that receives information about the found file ... so write it that way : WIN32_FIND_DATA FileData; hFile=FindFirstFile(str,&FileData); and i think it will work .... (without GPF).
