I was in a very similar situation, and I ended up using the free SVN hosting here: https://www.assembla.com/[^] That, with TortoiseSVN, makes for an easy time of everything. There are dozens of other sites that do similar stuff, so you're welcome to look around, I just liked their simplicity. I deleted and recreated my first project's repository and started from scratch a few times before I got the hang of it, but it didn't take long before I had it set up right.
