I'm king of lost here... this situation is very weird because the event is not fired when I select the first item in my drop down list..! Let me tell you the exact problem: I have a user control with a drop down list control. This control is auto post back to server when index is changed. When I select the second(or third, forth etc) item - the event method _TableDropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged is being called. When I select the first item this event isn't fired - so _TableDropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged is not being called! I use breakpoints in this event method and also in page_load method and I can say that page_load is happend but _TableDropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged isn't. it just ignores it somehow when I select the first item... The way to do this, is to store the value in the URL, and to do a redirect to that URL, on postback. Otherwise, the step where you changed the value of one, but the other was not changed, is a page in IE's history. That's what you're stepping back to. I can't see how IIS is *smart enough* to do this as the accessor to get a Singleton is static, so everyone has a chance to get it at the same time as you mention, the race condition. Therefore each client will obtain the singleton and have it within their HttpContext of their Session, and be able to access the same singleton concurrently. Won't they ?? regards, g00fy

You know, I would almost recommend writing that kind of manipulation into the database itself instead of trying to pull it to the client to reinterpt. Or if you are doing more of a report kind of thing you might want to look into making the database return Xml so you can apply an Xslt. Or heck why not look into buying any number of the software advertised here to do this kind of thing.

I don't know of any book that just covers components or even comes close to covering every aspect of component development. You can start with Visual Basic(r).NET: The Complete Reference[^] by Jeff Shapiro. It did pretty well for me. As for your second question, of course you can add your own controls to the ToolBox.
