  • Lovely. Do I even know how to code anymore?
    R RussTheMan

I have been where you are. I find a disconnect while my right-brain can suggest to my left-brain what I need to do usually works. Of course, if the deadline is not looming, the urgency is not there and the inspiration will not be forthcoming . . You have always come through before - this time will be no different. Trust the magic in you - it will show you the way . .

  • Moving to home office (mostly)
    R RussTheMan

My advice would be only share your recovered travelling dead time with your employer - don't hand it all over . . I long ago realised I'm a workaholic - which wasn't so much of an issue in my thirties when I was fitter, freelance, and paid by the hour - now I'm in my sixties and salaried again I have to really hard to stop myself working beyond my hours when I work from home. I have kept a room in my house as an actual office for the last 30 years or so, but these days I prefer to commute for around 2 hours a day in exchange for more rigid start and end times . . I still believe it's a mortal sin to quit when you are "on a roll", but I temper that with how much it is appreciated in the form of Overtime pay enhancement or Time off in Lieu; if you don't get overtime, I believe you have to think of it as underpay and judge your employer accordingly . . Your mileage may vary of course, but that's my two cents-worth generally . .

  • Who among you experience something like this?

I think "Scout" is your right-brain - not constrained by logic nor syntax it is what raised us as a species above many others . . it is the very essence (and purest form) of intelligence. Think of it as the part of your brain computer running only in it's native environment - unlike your left-brain which is running (probably vertical multi-level) interpreters but having the advantage of being accessible to your conscious thought processes . . My "Scout" manifests most in the short period between sleep and me being fully awake - I think of it as that time where the barrier between the two hemispheres' connection is at it's thinnest . . Just what I think . . YMMV . .

  • Lamest sounding "I can't wait to get back to coding" you've used lately.

RegEx (well, non-trivial RegEx anyway) just doesn't fit my head - I'm just not wired that way . . That said, I had a great colleague around 30 years ago who's favorite response (when I explained a problem taking more than 5 minutes to do so) was "Yeah - that's two lines of PERL" . . Not even sure if I remembered the name of the language right, but if he reads this, he'll know, I'm sure . .

  • TWCP OTD (The Who Cares Puzzle Of The Day) - 24th of January, 2017
    R RussTheMan

Interesting one . . It's about two things - the Interval of integers under consideration and the fact that poor zero never gets to be the first (most significant) digit. For a range of 1 to 10^n, lucky "1" gets representation in both the first AND last, so has a count of one more than all the rest other than zero. Zero never starts an integer, so looses out greatly but does indeed benefit slightly from (n-1) representations in the last number in the series. I don't think I have ever actually replied to anything on CP - many thanks for interesting me so much as to prompt me to do so this time! Russ
