Ryan, Maybe MS Press is unware of the fact that this book is not on their website. Maybe it could simply be because the book is no longer in print, or is just not supported any longer. The list could go on and on. Whatever the case may be, if you own a copy of the book, you should be entitled to support including but not limited to a CD replacement. Anytime I have ever had a problem with an MS Press Book/CD, I have always contacted them by telephone and asked for a replacement Book/CD which has always been sent out (of course they might ask you to send them back the defective CD which is never a big deal). As with most Microsoft/MS Press software, distributing the contents of the book's CD would put someone in violation of the license agreement (EULA). How do you use the VbTopicData?

You can pass the actual pointer of your vb structure to the C Dll using the ByRef flag which is declared on your parameters of the Public Function...Lib..Alias...(ByRef mystruct as MYSTRUCT) hook in vb. You can then use the pointer to modify the contents in the dll and vb SHOULD be ok with it. However there are problems with it, especially surrounding MODIFICATION of strings in the dll since vb uses BSTR's (a unicode string that can ignore null terminators) and I bet that your dll uses LPSTR's which are non unicode (which is perfectly acceptable). Can you do the conversion yourself? By that I mean, if you want the enum to fit into a short then convert it to a short and read/write that. You may need to do some funky casting and/or memcpy'ing, but the effects will be the same and will work on other compilers too

Look at what the error is telling you. The compiler is expecting a function that takes two params, but you're giving it a function that takes no params. The return type is also wrong. You are asking a key question about program design. I believe program design is more important any any software project than even actual coding. I recommend setting up a design plan for both Win32 and MFC. Afterward determine which one your software engineers can work with most effectively and efficient. As for books, I highly recommend Programming Windows with MFC Second Edition by Jeff Prosise and Programming Applications for Windows Fourth Edition by Jeffrey Richter. Kuphryn

1. Load the VC project of DLL, 2. set the breakpoints, 3. set the "Executable for debug session" (and m.b. Program argument etc.) in project's Settings, 4. "Go" for debug the DLL. 5. ignore the VC question about "Debug info was not found for ..." 6. after loading the <Executable>, e.g. VB6.EXE or Excel.EXE, set the its breakpoints if need and run the project.
