Ouch! This is a painful topic for me. I used to be very fit and healthy when in my 20s. But now I spend too much time staring at the screen figuring out neverending new technologies (1982 it all started with Basic on a ZX Spectrum, then to Assembler, Pascal, Clarion, VB (1-6), and Delphi (1-4). Then came the Internet with HTML, ASP, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, WAP, XML & Web Services. Then came .NET: C#, ASP.NET, then .NET 2.0, AJAX, Google Maps, .NET Compact framework for mobiles, MONO, Grasshopper, .... I haven't even touch the MS speech SDK I downloaded 2 months ago - am about to download the new MS robotics toolkit (Microsoft announced on 20 June 06 they are entering the Robotics Sector!). But is so much fun to learn new things... The result? I gained 10 kg in weight over the past 10 years (now 39), need too much sleep because I am unfit, and get frustrated with myself when climbing a few stairs and be too out of breath to even say "Hi" to the secretary. How many of you are in the same boat? Well, I got out of that boat 4 weeks ago. Decided its time to make a turnaround. Not too radical, but focussing on the outcomes. I now jog 2-3km 2x a week and do regular repetition workouts (push-ups still an old favourite) about 3 times a week - Hey, I lost 2 kg already, and feel way better. I actually can concentrate better on the screen too! My target is not just to lose weight (what for?) - I really would like to be in better shape when I turn 40 (October), than when I was 30. O yes, I would also like to run around and play sports with my kids as they grow up! You have a vote of 4 from me. Any man can be a father - but it takes someone special to be a dad. -- modified at 1:56 Sunday 25th June, 2006
